TEXSTgroup
Established 2016, Bergen, Norway
TEXSTgroup explores the presence of text in visual art in all its manifestations. It is an open forum for anyone whose practice, however marginally, is preoccupied by the written or spoken word, with a strong focus on collaboration and discussion that often culminates in publications, performances, workshops, reading groups and exhibitions. TEXSTgroup has been based in Bergen since 2016 and currently consists of Samuel Brzeski, Robin Everett, Audrey Hurd, Laurie Lax, Lucila Mayol and Pedro Riva.
Its initial form was TEXSTtable, a regular gathering that we still continue. With no fixed format other than joining around a table, it is a place for sharing words, writing and the spaces between, in any and every possibility. TEXSTgroup has also hosted events in many Bergen venues, including Tag Team Studio, Hordaland kunstsenter, KRAFT, Bokboden and KMD library. A recent extension takes the form of TEXSTpress, focusing on the publication and dissemination of works that resonate with our pursuit of testing the boundaries of text-based work.
For Bergen Assembly, TEXSTgroup presents As ghosts speak…, a series of workshops based on the ideas investigated in Mark Fisher’s Ghosts of My Life: Writings on Depression, Hauntology and Lost Futures (2014). The workshops are free to attend and will explore the resonant voice of the dead, the effects of acceleration on mental health, and the mire of cultural repetition.
Additionally, TEXSTgroup has assembled The Library of the Ghosts of My Life, an expanded reading list that can be accessed in Belgin. For more information on the workshops and to sign up, email grouptexst@gmail.com.
