Axel Revold, fresco decoration at Bergen Børs, 1918–23, photo by Tor Steffen Espedal

The former Bergen Stock Exchange houses a great artistic treasure: The monumental frescoes (1918-23) by Axel Revold.  This work is the starting point of the fresco period in Norwegian art history. The three large walls – The North Norway wall, the World wall, and the Bergen wall – with their ten panels, represent the actual labour and transactions that is the basis of the abstract activities of the stock exchange.

This breakfast lecture will be a chance to engage with the frescoes together with art historian Gunnar Danbolt, an excellent mediator and educator of generations of art historians at the University of Bergen.
