As Ghosts Speak… Does Time Fall Out of Joint?
•Workshop, conceived by TEXSTgroup
•Belgin, Rasmus Meyers allé 3, 5015 Bergen
•Admission free
Meditating on the personal content of the first two workshops, the third part of the series As ghosts speak…, conceived by TEXSTgroup, will move outward to the resulting societal impact. Mark Fisher states that culture has stagnated since 2003, and that we are stuck in a cycle of cultural repetition, reliant on nostalgia and reinvoking previous eras to create new cultural content.
Are we stuck in a recycled present?
What does this say about our ability to articulate a possibility for a shared future?
We will look at texts that are adrift in time, with a rootless subject matter, whose narratives are disjointed and fragmented. Through this workshop we will address the potential of writing and text to deal with this situation of a fragmented present.
AS GHOSTS SPEAK…
This series works from Mark Fisher’s Ghosts of My life to explore themes of hauntology, of resonant voices of the dead, and of echoing calls from the future, through exercises in sharing, listening, reading and writing.
Rather than a theoretical examination of the book, TEXSTgroup present a poetic tangent in which we introduce other voices through poetry, music, film and literature to explore Fisher’s concepts. Before each workshop we will circulate a media pack with things to read, watch and listen to.
These workshops are free and open to anyone to attend. There are no expectations and the amount that you wish to engage is up to you. You can just be a spectator if you so desire. It is also not necessary to complete any of the readings, listenings, or watchings to participate.
An expanded reading list—The Library of the Ghosts of My Life—is also present in Belgin to access at any time.
To sign up for the workshop, and receive your media pack, please email grouptexst@gmail.com
(you can also just turn up on the day – signing up isn’t necessary but recommended to receive the materials beforehand)
